Dental Sealants

Dental sealants act as a barrier to prevent cavities. Sealants are made of a plastic material and are applied to chewing surfaces primarily on back teeth, where cavities occur most often. It is often hard to reach these areas when brushing. Sealants provide a layer of protection keeping food particles from settling in to grooves and depressions that naturally occur in the premolars and molars. Dr Thiel and Leanne

Dr. Thiel paints the sealant directly on the tooth enamel where it bonds and hardens. Sealants may last up to several years with normal chewing before a new applications is needed. This is checked by Dr. Thiel at every visit.

Both children and teenagers are good candidates for sealants to protect them from tooth decay however adults can benefit as well. Ask Dr. Thiel on your next visit of you could be a candidate.

See below for recommendations from the America Dental Association for important steps to prevent tooth decay:

Key ingredients in preventing tooth decay and maintaining a healthy mouth are:

  • Brushing twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste
